Background

Due to the current health situation, there is a great need to protect ourselves with face masks along with other methods. We saw that these masks block the person's view and appearance, hiding their expressions. So much of the way we communicate with each other is through non-verbal cues, making it crucial that we see one another clearly while interacting.

Hence is our effort to bring a mask which is comfortable, stylish, transparent, reusable, washable/ sterilizable and resistant to bacterial contaminations. We will be going through the FDA Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) process shortly.

Model 360

Model 360 offers all of the above, plus the added feature of a micro-fan with rechargeable batteries. The objective of the model 360 is to circulate oxygen in to the face to help wearers feel as if they are breathing in fresh air. Without circulating air, prolonged mask use of any kind can reduce blood oxygenation by 20% causing headaches, carbon dioxide accumulation and hypoxia, and skin issues. Model 360 increases wearability and removes any feelings of suffocation due to prolonged use by allowing the user to have a continuous flow of air circulating.

N95 Masks

There are various types of masks out there. During the current health outbreak, N95 masks, once labeled as strictly professional, have quickly become common. N95 masks are a lot more reliable compared to the typical surgical masks or handmade face masks. Compared to the regular surgical masks, specialized N95 Masks are tight-fitting, reliable, and aren’t prone to leakage. Therefore, if approached wisely, N95 filters work very well when it comes to protecting people from the new deadly disease.

The similarities among surgical masks and surgical N95s are:

  1. They are tested for fluid resistance, filtration efficiency (particulate filtration efficiency and bacterial filtration efficiency), flammability and biocompatibility.
  2. They should not be shared or reused.

N95 Masks are examples of personal protective equipment that are used to protect the wearer from airborne particles and from liquid contaminating the face. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) also regulate N95 Masks.

It is important to recognize that the optimal way to prevent airborne transmission is to use a combination of interventions from across the hierarchy of controls, not just Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) alone.

N

This is a Respirator Rating Letter Class. It stands for “Non-Oil” meaning that if no oil-based particulates are present, then you can use the mask in the work environment. Other masks ratings are R (resistant to oil for 8 hours) and P (oil proof).

95

Masks ending in a 95, have a 95 percent efficiency. Masks ending in a 99 have a 99 percent efficiency. Masks ending in 100 are 99.97 percent efficient and that is the same as a HEPA quality filter.

.25 micron

The masks filter out contaminants like dust, mists and fumes. The minimum size of .25 micron of particulates and large droplets won’t pass through the barrier, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC.)

Material

The filtration material on the mask is an electrostatic non-woven polypropylene fiber.

N95 General Respirator Precautions

  • People with chronic respiratory, cardiac, or other medical conditions that make breathing difficult should check with their health care provider before using an N95 respirator because the N95 respirator can make it more difficult for the wearer to breathe.
  • Replace filter frequently for best results.
  • If your respirator is damaged or soiled, or if breathing becomes difficult, you should remove the respirator, discard it properly, and replace it with a new one. To safely discard your N95 respirator, place it in a plastic bag and put it in the trash. Wash your hands after handling the used respirator.
  • N95 Masks are not designed for children or people with facial hair. Because a proper fit cannot be achieved on children and people with facial hair, the N95 respirator may not provide full protection.

Who is behind?

Vijay Reddy, the founder of Synthium Health, has been instrumental in creating this evolutionary Tilium™ clear mask, N95 style, which is much needed during the current health crisis where masks became an essential part of one’s outfit.

Vijay leads the company with more than 25 years of experience in the healthcare industry, from technology to services, and works with highly experienced management and board.

Why did we come up with the project?

Due to the constantly changing times we are in, we saw there were shortages for PPE products. Masks became essential and they blocked the facial expressions of the wearer. Hence, we started working on transparent N95 masks around May 2020.
